SITE VISIT 3: THE SPEEDWAY TOUR, 7 APRIL 2010 (WED)

From Persada PLUS we then take a drive along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) and the North South Expressway Central Link (NSECL) en route to Speedway Plus, a motorsport circuit where you will get to try out your go-karting skills around the 1.2 kilometer track. PLUS unearths and nurtures young talents through the sport of go-karting as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to support the motorsport industry in Malaysia. The track is a favorite venue for many national and international motorsport events because of the technical challenges it presents to both novice and professional drivers.

A main thoroughfare linking major urban centers in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, the 35-km NKVE was a major catalyst for development and still contributes to the growth of new townships and residential areas along its corridor.

Opened in 1997, the NSECL bypasses Kuala Lumpur to connect the northern and southern portions of the North-South Expressway (NSE). It is also the primary route leading to and from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the nation’s Administrative Capital at Putrajaya.

The return journey takes us back along the NSECL and NKVE to our next stop at the Overhead Bridge Restaurant (OBR) at Sg Buloh. Straddling the expressway, the Sg Buloh OBR is a popular stop for travelers as it offers the services and convenience of fast food outlets, a one-stop sports centre, an ice-cream parlor and even a photo gallery.

From here, we head towards the newest expressway in Malaysia known as the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), opened in January 2009. This 18km expressway, our last stop for the day, facilitates traffic dispersal in the northeast section of Kuala Lumpur and reduces travel time for intra-city commuters from the west travelling to the east and the north.

From DUKE via the Ampang KL Elevated Highway (AKLEH), the tour ends at KL Tower, Malaysia’s iconic 421 m-high telecommunications and broadcasting tower, where delegates will have lunch in the Tower’s revolving restaurant while enjoying a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur city.
